Lost Drives!

Let me tell you what is a horrible thing to have happen.  Having your external hard drive get a fatal error.

Boy that's not fun!

I wake up Monday morning, go to plug in my external hard drive (mind you all of my work related stuff and also honeymoon photos are on this drive) and I'm told that I need to format my hard drive.  I proceeded to have a heart attack and stroke at the same time.

So I started to figure out solutions.  Everyone one I tried ended in failure.  I was able to recover 90% of the honeymoon photos.  The only ones I dont have are the first ones from Jamaica.  Those were mostly underwhelming though.  Still beyond annoying, but the file recovery worked on the photos from the camera memory card.

The drive, though needs to be formatted.  I have another solution, but I"m too depressed to try to work on it now.

All of my work stuff save for stuff in the last two months I have backed up. So thats good, I was able to recover it all.  The stuff I dont have saved from the last two months, save for the last week is at least scanned. So I just need to recreate some of the .pdf documents back into their word counterparts.  Good thing I'm not overly busy with work related stuff, so I have time to fix everything and put everything back in their proper order.

So the moral of the story.  Have a backup for your stuff at all times.  Even if you dont think its going to die, its going to die.  So I'm looking into the cloud now.  I really need to know more about this stuff anyway.  I am a former IT guy afterall!  So what's there to know about 'the cloud'?  I'm learning how to use iCloud, so I assume they are all the same.  Who should I use to get cloud space from?

In other news, its going to be cold tonight and I have to get up and goto Laredo tomorrow.  This does not sound like fun at all!
