So as I said previously, Roomstore is going out of business in San Antonio. My sister is getting a new apartment and needs all kinda crap. You know the basics. A bed. Kitchen table. Coffee table. Night stand. The basics.
Becky and I took a glance when it was first announced but didn't really find anything we had to have. But someone got the idea to go again this past weekend.
So we goto the first store. My sister found a table she loved. It was too much or at least more than she wanted to spend. They also had a nice 3 piece set of tables. Again, expensive. No wonder this place is going out of business for one. Now mind you, this is the first store we went to that we actually talked to a salesperson. She was nice (very skinny though), but it was essentially the price listed on all of the stuff.
Lo and behold, Becky finds a table she likes a lot. So I had to buy it.
Here it is:
Cost me $126.99 I think they had wanted $139 for it on the tag and so it was originally, I think like 170, just for this thing.
So then we goto a second store. They had all kinda other stuff there. Again my sister finds the table she loved. And the coffee table with end tables. We found the matching coffee table and Becky had found an entryway type table. Our salesman, Ramon, the short order cook, told us it would be best if we just put it all together, he would try to get the best deal possible. It was late, my mom had seen a rug also, we told him, we would be back the next day, which was Sunday.
Sunday comes, and we get in there, and no kidding this tall black guy looking like he was wearing pajama pants wouldn't leave us alone, wanted to get us a deal on the table we were looking at again and while I was trying to get rid of him, Becky is making him an offer. Anyway, we were finally able to toss him aside and hook back up with our short order cook. The coffee table they were wanting $209 for it. It was in their get it out of here section basically..so we said, I'll take it for $100, cause its all scratched up. For the record, it really wasn't bad at all, and can probably be fixed quite easily. We ended up taking it for $150.
This is it:
This is solid wood, heavy as shit stuff. I want to say they originally wanted something like $250 or $260 for it originally. Decent deal.
This though, is what I like most about these pieces, the oddities of myself sometimes:
I don't know why, but I think that's just cool in the corner there.
But no, we didn't stop there. While we were wandering around, Becky was selling me on this idea of putting a chair in the office to do some reading on and what not. They had a number of easy chairs sitting near this table, so we found one we liked. They wanted $399 for it. Ramon, our 'short order cook' of a salesman, said, we'll just make an offer, worst they can do is say no. So I said, I'll take it for $250, not thinking they would actually say, 'ok'. Needless to say, they said yes, I said to myself, "Damn, guess I gotta buy it now", so we now also own this:
My sister ended up getting a set of nesting tables who this location was dumber than dirt on figuring out and then that same table, for $140 less than the other store.
Now the worst part is that it took us an hour to pay, mostly due to my sister's nesting tables that were supposed to be in boxes, but were not, so we ended up getting them for less, mostly due to Becky bitching at them and talking them down. I wanted to go insane after waiting an hour to give them a grand! But now King Ramon, took care of us and hooked us up. Told us to come see him again if we decided we wanted anything else there (we don't).
So then the idea came across to get a second end table that matched the first. So we went off to another store and the saleslady said there were no end tables in dark brown. As she is telling Becky this, I'm waiving at her, saying I found it. We talked it down, got it for $110. Somehow I got hosed at the first store. We were in the store, and out of the store with the table in less than 15 minutes, or in about 1/10 of the time we were in the first store total.
Now along with this whole process, at the hated store, I found this chair that I like. Some will call it not very manly, but I'm also married now and don't care. After going to all of the other stores, Becky went to the south side store (which is also the biggest). The chair was sitting by the front door and in basically perfect condition. They wanted $400 for it. So I guess it was listed originally for about $480. Becky got it for $325. I don't care if you don't like it, here it is:
So versatile, can be used with so many other colors, and those are my sister's nesting tables to the right of it, can't really see them though. Now without me knowing, Becky was talking down lamps she really liked too. I guess her salesman was a nice old guy named Dean, who accused Becky of 'killing him' with her low offers. So she walks in the house with these:
$40 a piece, originally $100 bucks, wanted $60 for each of them in the store. The aren't bad I suppose.
So the next day, Monday, we go to pick up the first chair and we ran across the matching ottoman to that first chair. Dean was there and Becky proceeded to 'kill him' again. They were willing to break up the chair and ottoman and we got it at cost, $98. I wasn't thrilled about that cost, but its ok I suppose. And since I'm putting up photos of everything:
So for a grand total of $1,140 plus tax, I got a nice assortment of furniture that I didn't really need, but I'm glad I have, the coffee table I had was destroyed when Camo was a pup and I'm over the glass tops. So I don't really mind spending the money on them. The chairs I'm buying into Becky's vision. So the onus is on her for it to be good.
See how much fun furniture shopping can be????
